Jimmy Carter – What is hospice care? What are its goals?

February 23, 2023 //  by Andrew Slaton-Freeman

We here at the Slaton Schauer Law Firm, PLLC were deeply saddened by the news that Jimmy Carter is in poor health. You may have heard that President Carter has gone home to live out his remaining months.

For those who are unfamiliar with hospice care, it is a term for healthcare oriented more on management than curing a particular condition. The goals of hospice care are provision of comfort, support, and dignity to someone in the final stages of their life. It’s an opportunity for someone to remain in pleasant surroundings, enjoy the benefits of family, and find some peace. Think of it more as palliative care than a cure.

If you would like to learn more about hospice care, please see this helpful article by our friends at the AAEPA. We wish both President Carter and his family peace and joy over these next months.
